What’s on for fall

We thought it was probably time for an update on what’s been happening here at 70 Main Street.
On the beer front, there’s plenty going on. Fall means the return of two Halloween regulars, Vampire Deathwish and Wicked Witch.
Vampire Deathwish is a juicy sour ale with sour cherry and blood orange. It’s a pretty perfect beer for this in-between bit of the year, crisp enough to refresh but with enough fruit and depth for the cooler days.
Wicked Witch is a proper West Coast IPA brewed with Comet and Cascade. The light malt bill stays out of the way and gives the hops plenty of room to flex their lupulin muscle, with big grapefruit and pine needle vibes from the classic west coast hop bill.
We’ve also got a couple of new, taproom-only beers.
Afterglow is a Festbier brewed with German Munich malt and Hallertau Blanc. It’s dangerously sessionable for 6.5%, which feels like useful information to have before ordering your second one.
There’s also our Peach and Vanilla Sour, which will be available later this week. Tart and fruity, but softened with just enough vanilla to remind you that summer has decided to leave us behind. It's definitely got a bit of peach cobbler about it.
Around the rest of the building, and very much like things outside, change is happening pretty quickly. Our back office space has been demolished, opening up the southern side of the building and letting a heap of natural light into the space. It’s completely changed the feel of the room and given us the first glimpse of what 70 Main will eventually become.
The old brewing equipment is coming out too and will eventually be replaced with a smaller, more flexible system. The idea is to get back to brewing more rotating beers, seasonal releases, experiments and weird little one-offs that you can only get here.
We’re also working through plans for the kitchen and the rest of the venue so we can do more events, host bigger groups and make better use of the space we have. If you’re looking for somewhere to celebrate something, throw a party or just get a bunch of people together, give our events team a shout and see what we can make happen.
There’s still plenty of work ahead, but the place already feels different. Not just in how it looks, but in the energy around the place, too. The team is excited about where we’re heading and it’s been pretty cool watching the building start to take shape.
Thanks to everyone who has given us feedback, supported the changes and kept showing up while we pull the place apart and put it back together.
Cheers,
The Four Quarters Crew
